30W 320GPH Solar Water Fountain Pump (Orange)

I don't usually write reviews but this pump works so well for my purpose I felt I had to. I am a 79 year old woman that isn't much of a handy person. I got this pump for my fountain and put it all together in a short while. The part that took the longest was the tubing that I had to get to the right length. After trying several of the spouts that came with it, I found one that will just bubble like I wanted. Yes, it stops if it gets cloudy which is fine with me. I don't have an outside plug in so I needed solar power. This means I don't have to turn it off at night and it works most days as we get a lot of sun in summer. I hope the picture helps. I even have small frogs taking up residence!

The pump appears to be too strong for my fountain. On the low setting, it may work for a little bit, but within minutes, it goes back to dispensing the water so strong that it runs over the sides. It does not have water very long. It is not that it is not working, but rather that it is too strong and does not allow you to regulate it enough to serve our purpose. I don't know if it is malfunctioning or just not appropriate for our use. If there is a manner that I can reduce the amount of water, please let me know. I thought about tying the tub or plugging the hole some, but the pressure would probably back up into the pump.

Consider this a three-and-a-half-stars review. This is an okay solar fountain kit for my needs, and it does pump consistently when the sun is shining directly on the panel…just don’t expect a lot of lift from it. I have an existing spillway box sitting beside my 500-gallon pond, and this pump and panel cannot lift the water for more than little trickle off the spillway, even in the brightest sunlight. The pump quickly filled up the spillway reservoir (I’m guessing it’s about two or three gallons), but apparently the spillway is too large and too elevated for the pump to handle.I wrote the seller to ask if a higher wattage solar panel could be used with the pump (because I have several extra panels), and they confirmed that as long as the panel outputs 18 volts it should be fine. (They suggested a panel up to 55 watts, but I expect my 100 watt panel that outputs a maximum of 18 volts will be fine). The connector between the panel and the pump is a 3.5mm x 1.35mm male plug.A number of fountain parts are included, but I can’t really make use of them because my pond is essentially a deep hole with nothing to sit the pump and fountain extension on. I put the pump inside a filter bag that I tied to a stake at the side of the pond and ran the included translucent tubing directly from the pump out of the pond to feed back into it to test how it will do if I get some kind of edge-of-pond sluicing gizmo for it. When the sun is shining directly on the panel, the water flows strongly and feeds back into the pond, providing the water circulation I needed and got this solar kit for. It won’t look great until I rig up the sluice (like one of those bamboo ones shown on the product page), but once that’s done, I’ll be happy with this kit.If you have a smaller water feature, like a half-whiskey barrel pond, this will be a great kit for you. The solar panel itself is of good quality, there is plenty of length to the black cord that disappears into the landscape, and the little pump doesn’t take up a lot of room. Included with the kit are some extra filters. If you’ve never had a pond before, you should know that pumps require regular cleaning to work properly!

This solar fountain pump exceeded my expectations! The setup was super simple—just place the solar panel in direct sunlight, and the pump works right away. We purchased this pump because the vendor offered a 1 year money back guarantee, never thinking we would have to use it. However, after 2 weeks of enjoying our fountain the pump quit working. We followed all the trouble shooting steps given to us in the booklet and still did not work. My husband noticed that the empeller was frozen, which was the problem. I called company customer service and spoke to a very kind women who was polite and through. She requested a new pump be sent out, free of charge and in two days the new pump arrived. That pump was installed a few days later and to our surprise, it did not work properly and then stopped working entirely. Yes, that was frustrating but I called customer service again and this time all the operators were busy but 1 hour later a representative called me back. ( I did not request a call back). I told her what had happened and she immediately requested a new pump to be shipped out. I heard back the next morning that we would be getting a new pump in a few days. The emails I receive from Poposoap include a transcript of the phone call and the follow up, which is quite impressive. I can highly recommend this company based only on my experience with customer service as we have yet to have any success with the pumps. However, I do feel that the service I received would continue.

Purchased this setup to replace a 160gph pump for an outdoor fountain and decided the 320gph rating for this would work based on the solar output. When the panel is in direct sun or at least pointing up to the sky on a sunny day, it works great with my fountain. If it gets cloudy or overcast, the pump will slow until it finally drops below the voltage threshold and stops.

I see you can now purchase a battery module for this kit, and I would recommend it or any battery setup if you want the pump to run continuously at a decent flow rate.

For my use case, I'm using a solar controller wired to an old 12v wheelchair battery connected to a DC timer so I can turn the fountain off late at midnight until 7:00a. I also use a 12V Step Up to 19V 5A 95W Boost Converter. to allow the pump to run faster at a constant 19v, as if the solar panel were in full sun. Both the timer and step-up transformer are available here in Amazon.

The Pump and filter get dirty fast but are easy to clean and disassemble if needed. A small fiber became wrapped around the impellor shaft and stopped the pump. I just removed the 4 screws and was able to clean everything back to new condition. Use a little steel wool on the impellor shaft for a quick polish and it should spin like a top.
